I got my hands in 3 brand new 2026 Barbie Basics Model 09 (JJX28) and she’s stunning on first glance — beautiful face screening, rich brown skin tone, long hair, and that classic curvy body we love. But like many recent Mattel releases, there are a few noticeable quality control quirks worth mentioning before you buy it.
Here are the main things I spotted on my dolls:
1.Torso finish differences
- Doll 1 has a beautiful matte torso (smooth and realistic).
- Dolls 2 and 3 have a shinier, more plastic-looking finish on the torso and upper thighs. It’s subtle in photos but very obvious in person — almost like two different production batches. Matte feels more premium!
Asymmetrical legs (one leg noticeably shorter)
- Doll 2 has one leg clearly shorter than the other (see the close-up comparison).
The difference is about 2-3 mm at the knee joint, which makes her stand unevenly without help.
This is a common QC issue in recent curvy bodies, but it’s disappointing on a collector doll at this price point.
3.Other small details
- Minor mold lines and tiny factory marks on the legs and torso (normal for mass production, but visible up close).
- The articulation is good (Made to Move style), but the shorter leg affects posing stability.
Overall, she’s still a gorgeous addition to any curvy collection — the face-up is gorgeous ( I am going to show the flaws in the face later), and the hair feels soft. But these flaws make me wonder about batch consistency in 2026 Basics releases.
