2026 Barbie Basics 09 – Face & Head Quality Notes (Curvy Edition) – Part 2

After sharing my detailed thoughts on the body quality of the three 2026 Barbie Basics Model 09 Curvy dolls I purchased (you can read Part 1 here: 2026 Barbie Basics 09 – Quality Notes (Curvy Edition)), it’s time to talk about the most important part for many collectors: the face and head.

At first glance, these dolls are undeniably stunning. The rich brown skin tone, the soft long hair, and the classic Made to Move Curvy body make them very appealing additions to any curvy collection. However, once you start examining them up close — especially under good lighting and from different angles — some clear factory issues become visible.

The Face Screening (Makeup Application)

The 2026 Barbie Basics 09 uses the Tamika face sculpt, and the overall look is beautiful in concept: warm brown eyes with bold black eyeliner, shimmery gold and bronze eyeshadow, defined brows, and glossy lips. Unfortunately, the execution is inconsistent:

Visible smudges and paint flaws

One of the dolls shows a noticeable dark reddish-brown smudge on the cheek, right below the eye area. It looks like excess paint that wasn’t cleaned properly during production.

These are very obvious in close-up photos and look like overspray or mistakes in the screening process.

A bright white risk mark under the eye.

This close-up reveals a bright white risk mark located directly under the right eye, highlighting another inconsistency in the face paint application.

The differences between the dolls are clear. While one has relatively cleaner cheeks, the other show more obvious paint issues. This kind of variation is exactly what makes quality control feel hit-or-miss in the 2026 Basics series.
