Good morning, fellow collectors.
I watched the recent review by Nixie’s Toybox of the new Barbie Basics You Create Deluxe Kits 4 & 5, each priced at $100.
I dont’t even know where to start, Overall, the kits feel very underwhelming, Mattel claims the shoes fit all dolls, but that’s clearly not true — as shown in the video, the fit is inconsistent, especially on different body types.

Many pieces look awkward or simply don’t sit properly. While a few shoes and some clothing items (like the brown leather jacket and a couple of stretchy tops) are acceptable, almost everything else is unattractive. The outfits lack polish, and many pieces simply do not flatter the dolls.
The biggest issue is the dolls themselves: flawed faces with heavy, uneven makeup, cartoonish features and so on..
The wigs are bulky, unnatural, and poorly made with bad hairlines — the same problems collectors have complained so much.
Designer Carlyle Nuera knew the wigs were disliked, yet he repeated the exact same mistakes with no improvement whatsoever.
Even worse, the tall doll in the kit has a noticeable color mismatch between the arms and the head, eww !!!

You’re paying over $100 after tax for this level of quality? At this price point, the value is simply not there.
People are spending over $100 per kit and then starting to make excuses: “It’s great for customization!” or “The concept is fun!”
Nope. This is a very bad idea unless you have money to throw away.
If you’re going to spend that kind of money, I strongly recommend investing in handmade clothes from professional seamstresses instead.
They create beautiful, well-fitting outfits that actually suit curvy, petite, and tall bodies. Your money goes to talented people who care about their work and listen to collectors — not to a highly paid designer who doesn’t seem to care what we think.
I would not recommend these kits. For the same amount (or less), you can get far better results with handmade pieces and keep supporting creators who truly deserve it.

Thanks for reading. Keep collecting what actually makes you happy.
I’m so torn. I’ve literally been saving up for these and now I’m not sure whether to purchase or not.
Ah maybe just wait to make sure, many pics are popping up this week..
I find the face screenings too play line, not to mention that the makeup looks terrible. The wigs, while great in theory, just don’t lend themselves to the same type of movement and styling that rooted hair allows. The clothes overall just don’t excite me. The only piece I really like is the tule skirt but I may be able to make my own. These are a pass for me, I cannot justify spending $100 per kit for them.
I’m convinced that when Mattel decides to make these $100 kits, they find the ugliest face molds they possibly can. The wigs are a huge turnoff for me, but these hideous faces… for $100? That is an easy, big fat no for me.
