Mattel just dropped the details on the newest You Create Barbie Basics Deluxe Kit #5, that contains a curvy doll, is scheduled to launch on April 7, 2026, at 9:00 AM PT (that’s 12:00 PM ET / 1:00 PM BRT) exclusively on Mattel Creations. The price is set at $100 USD.

• What’s Included in the Kit?
  3 Made-to-Move bodies: Petite, Athletic, and Curvy (yay for body diversity!)
  3 swappable heads with different face sculpts: Rose, Minh, and Lizzette
  3 premium wigs with silicone caps: soft red flip, long blonde with bangs, and long straight brunette with highlights
• Mix-and-match outfits in neutral tones: champagne gold long-sleeve top, nude tube top, brown halter tank, champagne gold shorts, printed maxi wrap skirt, and fitted brown capris
  Shoes: strappy white sandals, brown flats, and nude heeled ankle boots
• Accessories: earrings, belt, purse, and sunglasses
  Premium packaging that doubles as a storage wardrobe + doll stands and Certificate of Authenticity

The idea is to let collectors mix and match everything to create tons of different looks — and it’s designed to work with other kits in the You Create Barbie Basics line.

My Honest Opinion

First, the good: Having three different bodies (especially the Curvy one) and three unique face sculpts is a nice touch for customization fans. The neutral-colored outfits are versatile and should mix well with other pieces. But here’s where I’m not impressed…No one is asking for more wigs in 2026 !!!!!

The previous You Create kits already got a lot of complaints about the wigs. And now they’re giving us three more wigs?
For $100, I really expected rooted hair or much higher quality instead of another set of wigs with silicone caps.

At this price point, Mattel needed to deliver something more premium more clothes, more detailed accessories, more extra shoes, or at least an upgrade on the hair.

The outfits are okay (stretchy and universal fit), but nothing that screams “wow, this is worth every dollar.”
Bottom line: This kit will probably appeal to heavy customizers who already collect the Basics line and want more bodies and heads to play with. For everyone else? It feels like it could (and should) have been so much better for $100.
